Purpose of the role

The Account Manager is a key member of the PR team, working with both their clients and their team to ensure the efficient and effective management of their accounts and projects. For this role, TEAM LEWIS seeks a candidate with a strong understanding of media and storytelling, and the ability to connect their clients’ objectives and requirements with strong editorial and content solutions. Client facing, Account Managers translate quick but creative thinking into decisive action, providing team management, project direction and exceptional writing and media relations skills.

Key responsibilities and tasks

Client/Team Management

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with clients and team members, establishing self and LEWIS as an invaluable long-term partner for marketing and communications services.
  • Collaborates within account teams and cross-functionally within the agency to develop impactful and cohesive content strategy and execution.
  • Builds trust and credibility with clients and leads PR/editorial projects with authority on content best practices; strategically and effectively approaches intake interviews with C-levels or other SMEs and resulting content.
  • Works closely with the Account Director to manage communication with the client and ensures deadlines and service agreements are met consistently by the team, and to identify and communicate opportunities for additional PR, marketing, and digital services.
  • With the Account Director, leads Q&A sessions with client subject matter experts (SMEs) to guide content development for bylines and other editorial needs.
  • Provides support, advice and creative thinking regarding content and campaigns on an on-going basis; works closely with account teams to identify new opportunities for content creation.
  • Adds value to new business pitches by providing support with coordination, content generation and presentation preparation, in addition to attendance
  • Assists in scheduling, organizing, and running regular client meetings and calls, providing consultative advice and direction on content execution.
  • Is a key member of the PR team, supporting junior staff’s development.

Media Relations

  • Understands and avidly follows the news cycle and can help teams ‘find the story’ for clients across a range of technology and B2B sectors.
  • Collaborates with account leads and team members on clients’ PR activities; builds, maintains, and develops productive relationships with journalists, bloggers, influencers, and analysts across national, trade and vertical media channels.
  • Advises on story angles and long-form and short-term narratives by maintaining and promoting a sound understanding of current affairs relevant to the industry, their clients, and the wider news agenda.
  • Able to craft editorial pieces that align with the topics, tone, and audience of different publications.

Content Creation

  • A storyteller at their core, who can clearly communicate and execute content strategy across the marketing funnel.
  • Oversees and provides content creation for campaigns and projects including press releases, articles, blog entries, and other written material.
  • Writes hard-hitting copy that drives action in a variety of mediums and formats; Can translate complex B2B jargon into digestible content for a non-technical audience.
  • Drafts, and oversees the drafting of, a broad range of written materials including but not limited to contributed articles (bylines), blog posts, media alerts, soundbites, press releases, interviews / Q&As, and case studies, ensuring a consistent level of high-quality content.
  • Works with content experts to improve knowledge of techniques and writing styles across multiple channels and platforms.
  • Is the keeper of the client’s best practices, tone, voice, and style to appropriately edit and provide guidance across multiple client touch points

Digital / Social Media

  • Uses social media to track breaking news and social conversation to generate highly relevant storylines that address audiences’ real-time interests; strategically executes rapid response content.
  • Actively shares ideas for social-first content including infographics, animations, and video to support written content and client aims.
  • Uses social media and proactively explores new tools, solutions, and processes to continuously evolve and optimize client PR campaigns; works collaboratively with the Digital team to increase the utilization of digital services wherever possible.

Team working and development

  • Acts as a respected line manager, working closely with line reports to maximize strengths, improve weaknesses and support career development
  • Line manages the account team, including coaching, supervision, assessment, and review of junior team members.
  • Sets and maintains strategic content objectives on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensures the on-going achievement of all deliverable client objectives.
  • Monitors team activity levels against budget, increasing and decreasing individuals’ allocation where necessary
  • Provides guidance to colleagues on how to best manage campaigns and content efforts, including answering general new business requests.
  • Works with the Talent team to recruit high caliber junior level candidates into the team.
  • Works with the HR team to reward, retain and develop your team and resolve any performance related issues
  • Regularly attends and leads LEWIS training sessions and daily press briefings to enhance skills and develop knowledge.

Reporting and analysis

  • Ensures that all activity and results are reported back to the client, providing insight and analysis where possible.
  • Communicates account performance internally (account reviews) to relevant stakeholders.
  • Provides detailed reports to the Account Director or senior management team on request.


  • Runs and supports training sessions, with a view to maximizing opportunities to expand team skills and grow revenues
  • Takes a proactive role in promoting the LEWIS brand, its work, identity and values
  • Supports the HR / talent team by promoting both internal and external opportunities at LEWIS across social media and via the referral scheme
  • Contributes and supports the continuous improvement of systems, practices and policies

About you

  • Relevant editorial experience: either working in a B2B, corporate, or digital communications agency environment or working in an editorial role at a website, publication, or media company
  • You love to write, every day, in many ways. Proven ability in writing, editing and concepting strategic content on behalf of clients. (Proven written ability in English and local languages.)
  • Big-picture thinking coupled with an attention to detail.
  • Experience in understanding client businesses, issues, and requirements; proven ability to own a brand’s / executive’s voice across content channels.
  • Collaborative and articulate, with the ability to both inspire and take creative direction.
  • Critical thinker and proactive problem-solver.
  • Highly developed presentation skills,
  • Strong knowledge of media (print, digital, broadcast) and a desire to stay abreast of current affairs, and an interest in relating them to client situations.
  • Positive, constructive attitude; ability to help motivate and lead a team
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to delegate effectively.
  • Calmness under pressure and ability to achieve tight deadlines.
  • Polished and professional, with the ability to interact with confidence at board-level with clients.
  • 3+ years of content or writing experience in the PR or creative fields; journalism experience is a plus.
